As requested by many of you, I’ve packaged up my Articles page functionality as a WordPress plugin. This plugin allows you to easily present a list of posts you select outside of your blog chronology. Very useful for featuring things that might otherwise slip into the nether regions of your archives. See it in action…

All excited about my recent experience backing up some critical files to Amazon S3, I asked Adam Tow if he’d considered using S3 for his photo backups. Adam and I have talked about backup strategies a number of times over the years, so I was curious to get his thoughts on the S3 option. For…

I can’t recommend this app highly enough. This release has a security fix, make sure to upgrade if you’re using 4.2 beta 1.

Bob had some good ideas from my previous concept, and I’ve come up with a second concept for a Share This icon based on one of them: Here they are in context with the Feed and OPML icons: Concept #1 Concept #2 Concept #2a Comments are open. This post is part of the project: Share…

I’m trying out Kontera In-Text Ads here on the site. These work by attaching ad links (in green) with little hover-overs to words on the page. Try them out, see what you think. I can tweak some settings, so feedback is welcome. I plan to leave this active for a month or so as a…

If you’re using JungleDisk on Mac OS X, double check that you’ve un-mounted (ejected) your JungleDisk volume before you quit JungleDisk Monitor1. Failure to do so seems to cause the Mac to freeze, forcing a hard shutdown (and we know a hard shutdown can be a Bad Thing). Even if you’re sure you’ve already done…

Update: NBC has now made this song available for download. Here is a direct link. The jazz version of O Holy Night at the end of tonight’s episode of Studio 60 knocked my socks off. When the voiceover said to go to nbc.com for more on tonight’s music, I was very hopeful. I thought, “perhaps…

As previously discussed, I think it would be a good idea to come up with a generic “social bookmarking”/”sharing” icon for use with things like my Share This plugin. I’ve come up with a rough concept icon: It’s in the same vein as the feed icon as Chris discussed. The connected dots represent information/data/ideas passing…

Since I’m already being paranoid with my backups, I figured a little additional offsite backup for the really critical stuff couldn’t hurt. The simplest solution is often the best: Amazon S3 JungleDisk rsync I’m storing a copy of my important MySQL data (my Tasks Pro™ data, the data for this site, the King Design site,…

The coherence feature has the possibility to be a game changer – yes. Will Apple buy them? Not sure. It might make sense to keep Parallels working on this as a separate company. Parallels can likely do stuff that might be trickier for Apple to do for business reasons (Apple needs M$ Office, and has to stay friendly with M$ as a result).

I keep seeing coverage of Zooomr so I decided to check it out. They’re giving away free “pro” accounts to bloggers – so I’m posting this to take advantage of that offer. I like that they are using OpenID for their logins. If you’re a Flickr user, Zooomr will be pretty familiar feeling.

Cut and Run, the Only Brave Thing to Do …a letter from Michael Moore Obama Calls On Iowa + The Religious Right Spanning Sync v1.0b3 Now Available – sync is one of those apps where I don’t want to be in on the beta. Anil Dash: Pay By The Hour – awesome! (thanks John) Warren…

Sometimes I hate having an engineering brain . Last week I was asked about creating a mobile friendly version of my Share This plugin and I’ve also been asked about creating a version that works if JavaScript is disabled. Now I don’t think that realistically many folks are going to want to be posting stuff…

Podcasters have been slower to break out of the mold provided by talk radio. The playing of music before segments and as transitions between segments makes some sense on the radio, where it’s used in some cases to fill airtime. But for podcasts, there’s no need to fill airtime with anything but content. 30 seconds of music before the actual podcast begins is the audio equivalent of Flash splash pages on web sites.
Emphasis mine.
