  1. Opening the Door

Our pup used to get somewhat stymied when the door to her crate was closed, but sometime in the last few months she learned to open the door so she can get inside. Smart girl. We still have her go in the crate when we leave, but we keep the door open and she can…

  2. Blizzard

Yep, it’s been snowing here in Colorado. Yesterday we shoveled about two feet of snow from the driveway to get a car back in the garage. Today, we shoveled another three+ feet of snow from the driveway. Some of that was windblown, but I think it’s safe to say we got a solid 3-4 feet…

  3. Google Calendar Loves “Noon”

I set up an event in Google Calendar to give my dog (Noonan) a bath. I typed: Bathe Noonan at 9pm into the Quick Add box. Google Calendar saw the ‘noon’ in there and set up an appointment to ‘Bathe an’ at 12pm (noon) and set ’9pm’ as the location. Kinda funny I guess, since…

  4. First Snow

I played golf in short sleeves on Sunday – a beautiful fall afternoon. Today, we get our first snow of the season. I’ve talked about the weather more since moving to Denver than I ever did before. Here are a few photos… the dog is completely unfazed by the white stuff.

  5. Bird in the Kitchen

It was nice out, so I decided to prop open the back screen door so the pup could come and go as she pleased. 15 minutes later, there was a bird in the kitchen, flying into the windows as it tried to get out. Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea after all…

  6. Puppy Photos

It’s been a while since I posted any photos of Noonan, here are a couple recent shots. She’s doing quite well, though today she seems a bit bored and is coming in to play every 5 minutes or so. I need to go run her a bit a lunch.

  7. Sick Puppy

My poor pup got sick last night. She doesn’t like thunder storms, so we aren’t sure if it was stress from the thunder storm last night while we were out or perhaps a bacterial thing from swimming in the creek last weekend. Either way, she was one sick puppy last night. The good news is…

  8. I was Run-ning

Took the pup up to the park today at lunch to run, run, run with an Italian Greyhound named Sophie. Noonan at full speed can keep up with Sophie, but Sophie probably has another gear I haven’t seen yet. Regardless, she’ll sleep well this afternoon. Sophie’s owner is also a photography buff (much more experienced…

  9. Under the Knife

The pup went in for her population control surgery on Wednesday and we brought her home again yesterday morning. She seems to be doing quite well recovery wise. The incision was about 1.5 inches long and is closed with three layers of internal dissovable sutures – no stitches that need to be removed. Her belly…

  10. Puppy Class Graduate

The little pup was a champ at her puppy class graduation today. She received the ‘most responsive to commands’ award and she won the the ‘best trick’ category. The winning trick was as follows: Lie down I put a liver treat on each of her paws I tell her to leave it She sits there…

  11. Little Doggie Teeth

The puppy has lost 3 molars in the last 2 days, and lost one of her canines the day before… we’ve got little doggie teeth flying all over the place.

  12. The Service Bell Debacle

On a tip from another Aussie owner, we put a service bell by each door and were teaching Noonan to ring the bell when she needed to go outside. This went pretty well the first couple weeks, then she decided that the bells were great toys. Instead of leaving them by the door, she carried…

  13. Puppy Update

Noonan got her last shots today, we can now take her to the dog park, etc. Very cool. The vet says that most dogs will grow to be twice the weight they are at 16 weeks. A mini-Aussie is normally between 15-25 pounds fully grown, but our pup was 14.4 pounds today (at 16 weeks,…

  14. Puppy Class

We had our first puppy class tonight. This first class was lecture only (no puppies). I’d already read pretty much everything they told us in one of the three dog books I read. I guess we’ve been doing things right with our pup. Much to our surprise, there is another mini-aussie pup in the group…

  15. Found Another Dog

I found another dog this morning. This time I was out taking Noonan for a walk and saw the dog running loose. It came over to us about a block from our house so I picked up my pup (she still doesn’t have all her shots) and carried her home. Then I coaxed the other…

  16. Puppy Vaccinations

When I took the pup to the vet I was told that until she has all her shots, I should avoid areas that lots of dogs go to; especially dog parks, trails and PETsMART. When I was in PETsMART today, I ran into a gal with a 12 week old pup who (inadvertently) confirmed that…

  17. Fuzzy Little Houdini

Though I’m home most of the time with the pup, there are times when she needs to be left home alone (it’s also important for her to get used to this). While I was out of town for the day on business last week, she had to be left alone for a few hours at…

  18. Working with a Puppy, Day 1

Yesterday was the first day I spent alone with the puppy. She definitely cut into my productivity, but I was still able to work on a few small projects, finish catching up on e-mail and start getting back into the swing of things. Our pup is very good about taking naps but when she’s awake,…

  19. Running Puppy

I went back to visit our pup again. She’s 8 weeks now, but we’re not going to bring her home until 10 weeks because we have a little vacation coming up. When I went into the big dog pen, the puppies went crazy. They were all jumping up and pawing at me at once (they…

  20. Big Puppy

I went up to visit our puppy yesterday afternoon. All of them are huge now compared to when we first saw them. They each have their own little personality and are very, very cute. I spent about an hour playing with our girl. She is getting around really well now and was exploring everything. The…

  21. Romping Puppy

I went up to visit our puppy this afternoon. All of the puppies are running around and playing now. Our girl has gotten quite a bit bigger since we last saw her. She’s the biggest of her litter by quite a bit. I brought up the collar and kennel we’d picked up to make sure…

  22. Stumbling Puppy

Last night we made our weekly trip to visit our puppy. She’s growing really quickly! All of the puppies are stumbling around now. They can stand and sit, but walking forward is a bit of a challenge for some of them. They tend to walk sideways and backward a lot. Every once in a while,…
