  1. HelpSpot

A couple of months ago, we moved from Mailroom to HelpSpot to manage e-mail support for the Use Tasks service. We liked the concept of Mailroom, but the execution left a little to be desired. I’d been aware of Ian Landsman and his work on HelpSpot for a while, but hadn’t really investigated it thoroughly…

  2. SVN Repositories

If you’re not a developer, feel free to skip this post. 🙂 I’ve been re-organizing my SVN repositories over the last week or so. This is what I’ve finally come up: clients – all client projects live in here, with a sub-dir for each client. documentation – docs for Tasks Pro™, Tasks™, etc. Having them…

  3. Around the web

village-idiot.org — wp-chunk – nice, simple plugin for shortening URLs in comments. I was going to write a plugin to do this, now I don’t have to. A Photo Walk in Boulder – I love living here. A Giraffe, an Elephant, and a Refrigerator – heh. Site-specific text zoom [dive into mark] – this might…

  4. Building alexking.org 2.0, part 10: CMS Benefits

Note: This is the tenth in a series of articles about the building of alexking.org 2.0. I’ve covered a lot of the benefits to having your entire site in a single CMS earlier in this series, but let me quickly highlight them again here. Flexibility With the content completely separated from the presentation, you can…

  5. Boulder Creative Commons →

In Boulder there is a problem. There are hundreds of talented creative professionals working and creating some beautiful stuff, but you ask them to name some names at other companies they draw a blank. Our community, and design can only go so far in our isolated pockets. Let’s get together and start the conversation.

I would like to invite you to the first Boulder Creative Commons. It will be an informal gathering of creatives of all types at my office in Boulder on Thursday, May 17th. 1035 Pearl St. 4th Floor.

    Great idea from Andrew.

  6. alexking.info, Themed

As noted previously, I’m using Tumblr for my tumblog. On of the cool things Tumblr allows you to do is create a custom theme for your tumblog – which I’ve done: It basically matches the theme you see here on alexking.org, but the navigation menu at the top has links out to the sources for…

  7. Bill Moyers Talks With Jon Stewart →

It’s the same argument people say about the blogs. The blogs are responsible. No, they’re not. The blogs are like anything else. You judge each one based on its own veracity and intelligence and all of that. And if you like, you could cherry pick only the things that you agree with from various things. Or, if you want, you can try and get a broader perspective, or you can find people who are absolutely out of their minds, or find people that are doing incredibly complex and interesting and urgent journalism. And the same goes for our show. It’s a prism into people’s own ideologies, when they watch our program. This is just our take.

This is a fascinating interview, watch it.

  8. Twitter Tools 1.0

I’ve released version 1.0 of Twitter Tools, my WordPress plugin that does a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account. Features include: Archive your Twitter tweets (downloaded every 15 minutes) Create a blog post from each of your tweets Create a daily digest post of your tweets Create a tweet on Twitter…

  9. OneBox

When I decided to offer phone support as a premium support option from King Design I had to set up phone service that would work the way I needed it to. I’ve been using a OneBox account for this, and I’ve been quite pleased at the way it’s worked out. My requirements: A toll-free number.…

  10. Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials →

Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.

    Legit, according to snopes.
