CitiMortgage Frustrations

Posted in: Rants

For the second month in a row, I’ve gotten a late payment notice from CitiMortgage. This is very frustrating since in both months my payment has been on time.

When we got our first bill, I set up a bi-monthly recurring payment though my online banking to pay half of the monthly payment plus a little extra towards principal. This worked fine (as far as I can tell) for the first few months, but the last two it’s been a disaster.

Last month, I spent nearly 2 hours arguing with a rep trying to get the late fee removed. What had happened was that they had received the money on time, but hadn’t applied it to my account until nearly a week later. Yes, it took 2 hours to convince this jerk that I shouldn’t get charged a late fee for this. Look buddy, my responsibility is to get the money to you by the date you specified. I can’t control how long it takes you to process it.

This month, I got a letter saying that no payment had been received at all! Fortunately, the gal on the other end of the phone was a little more intelligent. She looked in the account, saw the payments that had been received on time, got them applied correctly and put in a request to remove the late charge.

I’ve decided it isn’t worth having to argue with one of their reps on the phone each month so I’ve given in and will now make only one payment each month - well in advance.

I’m stilling getting late notices on my car loan, and every payment we’ve made has been on time. We’ve called, and they assured us the problem would disappear, but each time we get a notice the penalty goes up. I think it’s at like 700+ when my car payment is only like 150 or something.

Automatic payment systems are lovely, but when they don’t interact well with archaic bank systems, and the administrators of the system can’t straighten it out manually - chaos ensues.

Alex, I wouldn’t give up on this if I were you. You already know this, but the amount of money you save on interest over the next 20 years is probably well worth the effort.

Actually, I save nothing on interest the way I was doing it because CitiMortgage only applies the payments once a month anyway unless you pay them to join their bi-weekly payment plan thingy. Great, huh?

I had similar problems with a student loan years ago. The bank finally sold my loan and it was the happiest day of my life…well, almost.

You could do the next best thing to bi-monthly payments: setup an early mortgage payoff investment account. The theory is that you put the money aside each month and invest it. In X number of years, you take the investment and pay off the mortgage. The assumption is that long term, your investment earns more than the interest you save by paying a little extra on the mortgage.

I too have had problems with citimortgage. As an owner of several real estate properties, I have several mortgages with the company. Once they misapplied the payments so that one accoune was over paid and the other underpaid. I was charge a late fee but with the usual delay, I was finally able to reach a rep. who removed the fee.
This month, I was unable to access their web site over a period of two days. I tried to reach a rep. Finally after almost a half hour I reached a lady with a strong Indian accent who put me on hold so that she could talk to her supervisor. During the holding period I was cut off. Aaargh!!!

A little scared here - my mortgage servicer just sold their mortgage dept. to CitiMortgage!

I’m not in a snit mortgage-wise but was accustomed to my old lender and actually kind of liked them. I’ve heard too many nasty stories about Citi in general to feel okay about this. I would refinance but don’t think my interest rate would get that much lower (I actually have a pretty low interest rate currently) and don’t want to lay out cash for fees right now.
This is the first month (January) that Citi has started servicing my loan - any advice?

    Many thanks!

Well, i feel somewhat comforted to see I’m not the only one who hates citi. Citi mortgage just bought my loan from Principal Residential Mortgage. I never once had to call them, I just made my payment and extra principal through their user friendly website. Citi is quite a different story. First, I had to call in twice and be placed on hold for a total of 70 minutes just to be able to log in! Next, I find out that when you pay them online (which didn’t show my payment amount) they do not do EFT, its actually an electronic check, which costs me a check AND they do not apply extra payment to principal. I was told after another 45 minute hold time that the only way to make additional principal payment was to sign up for some program that was $375 sign up fee, plus additional per-payment fees. This has to be illegal.

My problems with Citi Mortgage has been going on for five and a half years. In a nutshell, wrong start date on mortgage when they bought it, according to them. Already a month late. Lost three payments, sent proof I made them led to 3 forbearances and remodification. $20,000 in overcharges now. Even had a lawyer. Husband got sick, denied disability insurance because we were late!!! No so. Almost lost house, someone claiming to be FHA loss mitigator from United Capital Mortgage Assistance named Rick Farr (a lie this is an arm of Citi) helped “save” our house. Citi did not want a court date because we have proof. We owe even more. Credit ruined. Can’t sell house, we will owe if we do. State starting class action and FHA says violated their guidelines but not a regulatory agency. New agreement in force made our payments on time, now they say we are one payment behind and we do it ECF. Can’t find a lawyer.

My loan was transfered from Principal to CitiMortgage as well. I have been sending my payments by certified mail and they are taking from 4 to 7 days to post. The problem is that for the past two months they have placed the entire payment into my escrow instead of to priciple, interest and escrow. They have outsourced to India. Apparently thousands of customers are inappropriatelty being charged late fees.

It is a major concern that someone could lose their home because Loss Mitigation mishandles their file. I made arrangements with a representative of Loss Mitigation of CitiMortgage. He said he would contact me to further discuss the terms of the agreement and send whatever paperwork. He never contacted me again. I made at least 10 phone calls to him (which he never returned). After getting so frustrated, I spoke with someone else who told me that my filed had been closed because of non payment of the agreed money. To date, I have not been able to speak with Duane Bowen. I leave him messages and that’s it.

To try and keep from having to pay any overage of a foreclusre, I am trying to sell my home. I called Duane, still no return call. It is unfortunate that I can’t seem to reach anyone who can help me fix this problem.

The agreement set up with Duane was great. He just never contacted me back to finalizing things. He just closed my file and said non payment, foreclose.

CitiMortgage needs to know that this is serious.

Another Principle Mortgage refuge here. Does anyone have a direct phone/e-mail to the Citimortgage Springfield, Ohio office? I’m trying to get my insurance money for hurricane repairs to my home from Citimortgage. (They are holding the insurance money paid on my Hurricane Frances claim because they are holding my mortgage.) I send invoices to Orange, CA, which I understand is just a processing center. The processing center e-mails the info. they input once a day to Springfield, Ohio. The Ohio office cuts the checks to vendors fixing my home. If I have any questions or really need customer service, Orange CA tells me someone from Springfield will call me back…they don’t even have a phone number is Springfield to give me. And, of course, no one has called me back….and it has been 6 days, so I’m about to make my third phone call to CA. Again, I’d like to eliminate the buffer zone Citimortgage has built into the “customer disservice” system…does anyone have a phone number/e-mail for the Springfield, Ohio Citimortgage office. Thanks!

I don’t have a loan with CitiMortgage, however…let me tell you what happened to me!!! I applied for a job in their Marlton, NJ branch. I went thru a series of interviews, in person and by phone with their corporate office in St. Louis. Then they sent me a huge package to fill out & overnight back. I had to sign so many forms about protecting their privacy, codes of conduct, antitrust laws, U.S. embargoes & sanctions…I felt like I’d applied at the FBI!! Then, I had to get fingerprinted & drug tested! (which I was sooo NOT worried about!) Finally, they actually offered me the salary I had requested, and I’d also get monthly & quarterly bonuses! Also, I’d get 2 weeks vacation that I could take THIS summer, 12 sick days a year, 2 personal days & 10 standard holidays, all med, dental, vision paid by the company, immediate 401k enrollment that matched $3 for every $1 I put in, pension after 5 years, we could wear jeans & sneaks every day…and sooo much more! I just kept thinking how perfect this was! I was telling everyone; my family, friends, my daughter’s daycare teacher. I even bought a new outfit for my first day! I couldn’t wait to start, which was to be on Monday, March 21st. WELL…..on Friday the 18th, around 2pm, a doctor from Citigroup Corporate called to tell me that I failed my pee test!! It came back positive for anphetamines! I was in total shock! I just kept saying, that’s wrong!! There’s no way!! I wasn’t even sure what anphetamines were! The doctor said that I need to call HR, there’s nothing she could do, she just reads the results. She said they don’t allow retests. I was so upset & confused. I was really trying not to cry. I just couldn’t be like, “ok! thanks for calling!” So I said, “you’re a doctor, how could this could happen? It’s impossible!” SO THEN….she asks if I take any prescription meds, if I have asthma or if I take diet pills. BINGO!!! I have asthma, allergies & I take o.t.c. energy pills & vitamins. BUT I don’t have a current prescription because I haven’t had med insurance since Oct last year when my last employer downsized & I was laid off. Cobra is way too expensive & I’m a single mom! So, for now, it’s cheaper to get the same things o.t.c. at Walgreen’s! I explained all this to her & she said that if I had a current doc’s script, then they’d excuse it. (My doctor diagnosed my asthma & allergies about 20 years ago & I have had scripts) She asked if the lab asked me if I was taking any meds & I said no. I’ve never been drug tested before. I had no idea that normal products or perscribed ones will throw off a test! I pleaded with her for any kind of help or advice on what to do. She told me to photcopy everything I took in the past 2 weeks, front & back & expiration dates, then fax them to her & she’d see if she could get an exception for me. (which cost $8, since I don’t have a fax or copier & it was a NY fax #) Then the HR girl called me to “formally rescind the job offer”. I explained that it was a mistake & that the doc was going to help me get an ok, but HR said that I couldn’t start on the 21st & she’s never known Citigroup to bend on their policy. I advised her that in the future, she needs to tell new employees that certain meds will throw off a test so they can mention it at the lab before they take the test. (she didn’t respond to that!) Then I did some research online & found a HUGE list of normal products like cough meds, certain vitamins, even Advil will give a false positive. Also, the ACLU has represented many cases like this & won, calling it unconstitutional & a violation of civil rights, bec the FDA knows drug tests are flawed. It has been so humiliating to have to tell people why I didn’t start my new job! I can only hope that everyone believes me that I’m not a drug addict!! Weel, I haven’t heard from the doc yet & I’ve left her a couple voice mails to see what’s going on. So, I figure I’m not getting an exception or she didn’t really feel like helping me. So, I decided to take this further and contact the ACLU & a lawyer! I just can’t accept that I was denied a “dream job” bec they require inaccurate drug testing at their approved lab that doesn’t advise that normal cold & allergy meds will ruin the test and their corporate doctor only tells you after you fail, when it’s too late! This kind of policy & procedure is unacceptable! It made me thankful that I’m laid off and that I didn’t give up another job for them. Which I’m sure will happen to someone else, if it hasn’t already! I’ll log on here in the future to advise of the outcome. Wish me luck! But before I end this enormous posting, I now have lots of executive contact people & info on Citimortgage/Citigroup! I’d be more than happy to share! email me at bellaflora29@aol.com. Also, as a mortgage professional, I’d advise everyone to try to refi out of them. There are companies like ditech.com that have very small flat fees for refi’s & 2nd’s. I’d also be happy to offer any help or advice about mortgages. Even if you’re loan with Citi is new, and it may cost you again to refi out, it may be worth it in the long run! Take care!

My mortgage was sold to CitiMortgage about 8 months ago and it’s been nothing but problems — mysterious late fees, “inspection” fees, payments credited real late or not at all, one problem after another. Calling the 800 number is useless; I either get an Indian who has no idea how to address problems or a rude American who insists everything is my fault and I need to send more money immediately. Due to a mysterious late fee, my last payment turned out to be $10 short, so they held the entire payment as “unapplied funds” — which I did not know about until I checked the web site 3 weeks later, by which time more late fees had been posted. According to them, I have been late since the day they took over the account after no problems with my prior mortgage whatsoever. I made a payment AT A CITIBANK that did not get credited for 2 weeks and a payment via Western Union (when traveling) that did not get credited at all. This company is the absolute worst I have evr dealt with. I hope someone starts a class action so I can jump on board.

Since my mortgage company Principal Mortgage has been bought by Citi, I have had nothing but problems. I am so miserable with Citi. I have encountered customer services reps who have hung up on me when I ask to speak with their supervisor and others who have told me incorrect information-only to be retracted by their fellow coworkers. I think I speak with someone at least once a week. Recently, I have been trying to get my real estate taxes paid-the correct amount exactly needs to be paid by April 29th. In Pennsylvania, the real estate company pays this out of your escrow….lucky me. Well, Citi thus far has been incompentient in doing this and has just last week mail out the incorrect amount to my local tax office. I spoke with my local tax office who stated that this amount will be rejected and they will need the exact amount by the 29th or I will not receive the discounted rate. I phoned Citi and the lady said that she’d put an “inquiry” on this. What I need is someone to do their job without me having to call and prompt them. I can’t imagine doing this for the next 30 years!!!! I will ifnd out something by May 6th……..TOO LATE FOR THE DISCOUNT-which I WILL NOT PAY. I will sooner sue Citi before I pay a more heftier amount (be it $1 or $100) due to their imcompetencies.

we had our loan for 15 years and made bi-weekly payments for the last 12 years. never had a problem with our mortgage until our company sold our mortgage to citimortgage. this property was and still is an investment for our children’s college. the time has come to do the college thing and apply for an equity loan. (forgot to mention, our mortgage has been paid-off since dec. 2004.) when we tried for an equity loan on a property that we own out-right, our credit report came back and WOW, the lowest interest rate we are offered is 10.295%!!! want to know why? it seems that citimortgage did not apply the final payments to our mortgage until 2 months after the loan was supposed to be paid off. they had our money, said they couldn’t find it, don’t know why it wasn’t applied to our account, and now when i call to get this resolved and removed from our credit report, citimortgage says their records show no evidence that this even happened. i even have paperwork from this negotiation from them and they still say it never happened. what’s going on? fifteen years of paying twice an month, always on time, no problems ever, that is until citimortgage got a hold of us. applicants and current customers beware.

well, it sounds like my complaint is nothing new. it came to our attention that Citimortgage had 2 30 late payments on our credit report for 2003…but we didn’t find out until Feb of 2004. When my husband asked them to remove them , they said no…even though our payment history reflects no such late payments. When he asked them a second time, they agreed to remove them. But, when we applied for a mortgage this year, we were turned down, because the late payments were still on our report. So now they have been on there for 2 years! We called them again, and Mr. India, answered, and I swear he was reading froma script, because he couldn’t say anything but the same sentence over and over again! We finally got a letter from them telling us they had the lat epayments removed. Then our potential mortgage lender called to say he pulled our rport again, and 2 more late payments have showed up! We are now being turned down for credit everywhere because of these late payments, and also being penilised becasue companies are pulling our credit report! Our have reported them to the better business bureau, and whatever complaint site i can find online. I also filed a complaint to Citimortgage and this is what I got:-

If you have documented proof (copy of check- front and back, bank receipt), please forward written request with CMI account number, documentation and a copy of the credit bureau report to….etc

So, I finally lost it on Friday of last week, and I faxed a letter, stating that if our credit is not repaired within the next 2 weeks, I am seeking legal counsel.

My problem with Citi Mortgage is this. My house was in forclosure with them, I spoke with loss litigation personel named Linda (who was wonderful). She put me on a program that when my house sold they would accept a short payment. This was great. When my house sold in February I called only to find out that my case was sent to another person. This person named Sharon was terrible to deal with. She never returned calls to me or my broker or even my lawyer. I didnt know until I called Linda in April that my case was once again given to Angie, another person. What a run around and the house was to close in 2 weeks. After talking to Angie I was told that the papers were tossed aside and filed under deed of lien and they never received a completed contract for the sale of the house. These papers were faxed over to them in Feb. The papers had to be refaxed, and we could not sell the house until everything was approved by her. She would not return phone calls, even my lawyers. Well, finally after 3 weeks they approved the sale and the closing date was set. Two days before the close Citi Mortgage stated that the amount they previously approved for the short sale was incorrect and they wanted $3000.00 more from me to close. Are they stupid or what? I did not have the money, if I did I wouldn’t have needed the program. Fortunately the buyer offered to pay the $3000.00 extra. And after all this I received NOTHING from the sale of my house. They are still giving my lawyers a hard time about paper work. I hate this bank.
The attorney general of NY is investigating Citi Corp and other banks for high lending fees. I am going to file a complaint with them about Citi Mortgage. This has to stop.

AAAAARGH! Another Principal refugee here. 6 months now of customer non-service from CitiMortgage, with their frustrating phone menu system and non-English speaking reps once you finally get one on the phone!

I have 3 accounts with CitiMortgage: my home, plus 2 rental properties. Here is my latest problem. I have always had my payments set up automatically through my bank. January’s through May’s payments all went fine, but two of the three June payments were returned to my bank with a notice that my account numbers were invalid. I had not changed any of the automatic payment information, so this seemed strange.

I called the bank to verify to account numbers (they were correct) and called CitiMortgage to find out what the problem was. CitiMortgage said they had no record of my payments being rejected (well, duh!) and to send them again and Guarav (cheap labor in Saudi Arabia?) would ensure that they were applied to the correct accounts.

I called the bank and asked them to resend the payments and they suggested I verify (one more time) with CitiMortgage the account numbers. I got Erijit this time (IJIT being the operative part of her name), who verified the account numbers and told me to add a memo to my payments with my name and account numbers. I did that, and the payments went out again. Lo and behold, within 5 days, the money was again returned to my accounts.

I called CitiMortgage again to figure out why they keep returning my money and of course, Ranjan the rep (I swear I am not making these names up–I make them spell it every time) had no record of the returned payments and suggested I set up automatic payments through CitiMortgage to “fix” the problem. I said I set them up through my bank so I have control of my own money and I still wanted an explanation for the returned payments. I also said I’d send a personal check, but now since my payments would be late, I wanted him to waive the late fees. He said late fees could be waived one time for the life of any loan, and this would be my “once.” I lost it. I said no, no, no, YOU screwed this up, I am not about to be penalized for it. He said there was no other way to handle it, that once a late fee is waived, it can never be done again. Plus, he said they have no evidence that it was their fault, since they had no evidence that they are returning payments. I said what if I send you a copy of my bank statement, showing the returned money? He said sorry, there’s nothing anyone can do. I demanded to talk to a supervisor and he put me on hold for 25 mintues.

Finally an American in Montana got on the line and said what’s the problem. I said what did Ranjan tell you? She said he told her that I wanted a late fee waived but she didn’t know why. I told my whole story again and she said let’s get the bank on a conference call and straighten this out. We did, and after talking to them, she finally admitted that CitiMortgage is at fault. She made a comment like “there are so many “Citi Entities,’ the payments probably just get rejected by another one of them before they get to CitiMortgage.” NOT VERY ENCOURAGING!! And still no explanation why one payment went through but not the others. And why it all worked ok for 5 months. Anyway, she gave me another address to have the payments sent to and did say she would waive the late fee, but I have little confidence that this saga is over.

I too am considering refinancing to get rid of these folks, but I refinanced with Principal when rates were record low, so I will lose those rates, not to mention pay big fees to refinance. Plus, what happens when the new company sells the mortgage to CitiMortgage?!

Class action suit? Count me in!! So far there have been no damages (other than the value of my many hours on the phone), but I want punitive damages.

Oh, wanted to add one more thing to my blog above. When I call CitiMortgage and get the menu system, it asks for my account number and last four digits of my SSN. I type them in and it says they don’t match. I have to go through that 3 times before they connect me to a person. The rep asked me for the same info, which I told hima dn he too said they don’t match. I said “I don’t know what else to tell you, I am giving you the correct numbers.” He said ok, what can I help you with, without doing anything else to verify that it was me or figure out why the numbers don’t match the database. When I finally talked to the supervisor, I told her it was very frustrating to have to punch in numbers over and over that aren’t accepted by the menu and there’s no way to reach a human until I go through the ordeal numerous times. She checked my SSN against my other two accounts and admitted that THEY entered it wrong on one of them. Now she’s sending a “Form Umpty-Ump” that I get to fill out and send back to correct another one of their mistakes!!!

This is my home that they are messing with! We do not want to loose our home so we are forced to pay all this extra stuff. Right or wrong we have to.

We liked Principal and are now the wasting away in Citimortgage hell. Wow. What a frustrating 6 months it has been. I have spent at least 30 hours on the phone getting things fixed. I once asked for a confirmation # for a late fee removal and was given one. When I called back with this number I was told that confirmation #s aren’t given out. I asked, “Did Michael Kirby make this up?” Answer: “Probably.” Imagine, one of our country’s most powerful banks making up stuff. Read this CitiWorld: we have cancelled our CitiBank Credit card and are never choosing a Citi product again. Maybe CitiWorld monitors blogs. Hope so. I am investigating the process for re-financing out of this rat maze.

Our mortgage just got transferred to Citimortgage. This being our first house I am already paranoid and on-edge about doing everything just right. So I read this blog with a sick stomach as I realize the problems that await me.

I wanted to make biweekly payments, so based on other comments it looks like I have to use their Biweekly-Advantage Plan for a low enrollment fee of $375 dollars.

I really want to throw-up. Is anything being done legally about this? I am glad at least that I know what to expect so I can save checks and such.

Well hows this another Principal to CitiMortgage Horror story. 3 years ago my wife and I filed a petition for Chapter 13 protection. At the time of the filing we did not include principal in the origional petition. We kept making the mortgage payments and were happy campers other than we had to pay attorney fees to a local counsel that principal hired in our city to represent their interests in the bankruptcy. Well in april of 2004 I lost my job so we were unable to make our chapter 13 payments and petitioned that the 13 be discharged and that the case be converted into a chapter 7. Well it happened and all this time we were thinking that our saving grace once we emerged was that we would have the mortgage payments to help reestablish and salvage our credit. Well we got the thrifty notification from principal/citi that citi would now be handeling our mortgage so we started paying citi. and kept on paying them in the same manner that we had been paying Principal always ontime. Well we started getting monthly statements from CitiMortgage and on the statement it said this is not an attempt to collect a debt and that this was included at one time in a bankruptcy. Well we had recieved several of these statements and I finally called to find out why this was on the statements since the mortgage was at one point “outside” of the bankruptcy and that it was not included in it. Well I was told that the mortgage had been written off. Lets put it this was our house is worth $180k our mortgage with them is 100K and since 1996 the payment was only late twice and that was for 2×60 days past due during the time that the bankruptcy was filed. Well I was informed that since there was no reaffirmation agreement at the time that the chapter 7 was discharged and by the way the second mortgage holder who is also as snakey as Citimortgage followed through with the bankruptcy courts and was able to get a reaffirmation agreement signed and filed. Well Citi said that since this was not done that the loan is not going to be reported and was never reported last year. When i finally was passed from Bombay after speaking to Angela well i spoke to a american supervisor who i said that Citi Mortgage had just kissed away a more than perfect relationship a loan that had had favorable mention by Principal even during the bankruptcy. She said well there was nothing they could do and that they would be more than happy to provide me with a periodic payment history. I said that the pymt history was fine but that that did not cut it since it was not showing or had not showed favorable credit history on my wifes report. I said what happened to the local counsel why didnt they approach our attorney about the reaffirmation agreement. She said that it was not their job and that they were not allowed too. I said interesting since they had local counsel representing them on this account which was not even included in the bankruptcy. I also asked her did Citimortgage realize that Ocwen has more of a legal recourse for claim to the property since there is a binding contract inplace which on the funny side of that is ocwen is only owed 20k. Well now we are in a hurry to find a lender who is a prime with a conforming loan to refinance this so that we can run and run fast from this nightmare.

Just an additional comment, I didn’t realize what the bi-weekly plan really is when I wrote my last post. For any of you that are thinking of doing the bi-weekly plan through Citimortgage should just do it themselves for free! Just pay an additional 12th over your regular payment and that does the trick. By paying an additional payment over the course of a year, you do the same thing that Citimortgage is doing except you don’t get charged $300+ up front costs and transaction charges. By the way, I am happy to see that our first two payment has been applied correctly to our account.

The unlawful detainer is still on my record and i was never reimbursed any of the attorney, filing, service, etc, etc fees. They benefited financially by continuing with the foreclosure process even though I told them they were incorrect right from the start.

If your bi-weekly program is administered by a third party, that could cause this problem. Most major companies do not offer these, and can only process a payment if a FULL payment is received which means the bi-weekly company has to pay ahead of schedule.

Not with the company more than 12 mos, tax payment due but the latest is that I am now eligible to cease my escrow account but must pay $560.79 as a processing fee. What the *@%$ !!!! I asked if a monthly fee is charged for the services of an escrow but they tell me my loan docs would give me all that information…yeah right! My loans docs were from two other companies less than 18 month ago. I want out of this escrow agreement…they have one again raised my payment this time by $300 which means my taxes should be around $7,200 per year when they are according to the County Tax department around $3,450. go figure…math is hard for somepeople!! Did someone say “Class Action Suit”????

ok, my loan was sold to CitiMortgage as well. I just want to recommend anyone who is in the position of closing a mortgage, to never go with Citi. If your loan eventually ends up with citi (and they keep 100% of their loans), then make sure you always pay in time up front and open all your statements, even if you have set up an online payment plan. Because they will not notify you if anything goes wrong until one day before filing to the CRAs. You will have to pay right then over the phone, with a payment charge and late fee. There will be no discussions, unless you speak hindi, since their service is all sourced out now and there is no way you can explain anything to those morons. If you want to talk to a supervisor you will wait another 30 minutes on hold then get booted off.
If this was a cell phone or cable carrier, I would be long gone. But unfortuately refinancing costs a fortune. They know that, so they can treat their customers like shit.

I’m terrified after reading this site. I refinanced with Pulaski bank and the account was being sold to Citimortgage as I was signing the documents for the refinance. I called Pulaski and was told it had not been sold but could be sold. I received a statement from Pulaski and sent on June 16th the payment due for July 1st. I then received a statement from Citimortgage that the account was sold and to remit payment to them. I called Citi and provided the date and check number of the payment sent to Pulaski and was told not to worry about it, they understood about transfers and it could take up to 60 days for the payment to be sent over but I would not have late fees and did not have to pay twice. The next statement I received from Citi arrived two days before the payment was due and showed I owed for two payments. I contacted them and was told not to worry. The next statement arrive one day before payment was due and still showed I owed for two payments. I then received a notice about late payments and reporting to credit etc. I called and was told the payment had not been received and was also told “You know when the payment is due you should just send the money in” also that if it wasn’t posted by the 16th I would be subject to additional fees. Very cold, very rude people responding to me. I contacted my credit union and found that Citi had done as previously noted electronically collected the payment on Sept. 7th. I called Citi back and told them the information I had received and was told that didn’t matter and I needed to provide copy of the check showing it cleared! I called my credit union back and the best they could do was fax me a statement showing recent transactions. I then called the Customer Service department of Citi and in tears told the man who answered “Ron” what had happened and asked if I sent the statement to him could he resolve it, he told me he would. Now if he did or didn’t I don’t know at this point but I will call on Monday to find out if it was done. I am going to go to E-Z pay (which if you select from the 1st to I think the 10th for the money to be deducted from your account there is no charge).

If problems continue with Citimortgage and a class action suit is undertaken I want to be a part of it.

    Good Luck to us all.

I’m still working on my issue. I have it down to one late charge that seems to be from the transfer from Pulaski to Citi. Also received the “check returned”, then accepted routine. I’ve decided not to use E-Z pay (which is no charge 1st to 5th), I don’t want these people to have access to my account! I continue to encounter horrible nasty people (better luck with customer service than collection department). I’m going to take one of their statements and convert it to a blank monthly statement so I can pay in advance and include all their info. Perhaps that will help.

My husband and I just found out via a letter that our taxes had not been paid since 2002. They did make two half payments and then stopped with no notice to us.
Every year our name would appear in the local papers as deliquient on our taxes. Every year I have called and they give me the run around and then reassure me that they will have them paid within 20 days or less.
I called on August 29 of this year and after almost an hour on the phone with a “non english” speaking person, I got a supervisor. (after asking 4 times) She reassured me that they would be paid.
On September the 27, 2005 we recieved a letter stating that 2003, 2004 and now 2005 taxes were not paid.
I went to the local County Treasurers office and they called Citimortage. We spoke with some other person in India.
One of the other customer service (ha) representatives told me that they would not pay the late fees.
After several phone calls we are still waiting to see what is going to happen.
Very frussted @ this point. I do agree that something has to be done!
My payments are sent to the Des Moines, IA location and I am cc: the Attorney General of that state.
Everyone also needs to cc their local Attorney General and also the one where their payments are sent. If they don’t know what’s going on, they can’t even begin to fix this problem!

We’ve been with Citi since our mortgage was purchased by them from Principal in January 2005. I’ve had the same experience with representatives on the phone being rude and inadequately trained. I’ve had to rectify our escrow account twice…never had problems when we were with Principal. I understand the complexities to complete the purchase of billions in mortgages - but it’s not the consumer’s problem to help Citi make lots of money through fees and charges resulting from their (Cit’s) inadequacy. “Too bad, so sad” is the attitude of every Citi representative I’ve talked to.

My major complaint has to do with their website. I’ve always made payments online, previously through Prinicpal and now through Citi. Never had a problem with Principal. Unfortunately I’ve had several problems with Citi. If you submit an online payment after the 8th of the month, they assess a $9.95 fee. Of my last 9 payments, I’ve logged on 3 times on the 7th or 8th to make a payment and their site is “undergoing routine maintenance”. Coincidentally the site is available the next day, just in time for Citi to collect the $9.95 fee. I have called them and asked that they waive the fee because of their site being down and am told that I’ll need to contact their technical support team. I then ask if the technical support people can waive the fee and they say “yes”. With a high level of skepticism, I hang up and call the technical support people. They say the site was not down (this has happened 3 times and trust me - I’m very capable of determining if a site is down versus trouble with my computer). At this point I have no recourse. What a remarkable coincidence that the site is unavailable on the 7th/8th and magically comes back to life on the 9th. Of the 3 times this has happened, twice I have asked to do the pay-by-phone thing ($15.00 fee I think) and asked to have the fee waived. Of course, they cannot waive the fee. I asked to talk to the supervisor. The supervisor says it is not possible to waive the fee. Of course it’s possible - you just push the “waive the fee” button, but they don’t have one of those. What a business! They have a button to apply fees, but no buttons to waive fees!

Long and the short - Citimortgage is unethically practicing business and knows they have their mortgage customers against a wall. Refinancing is generally a costly path - it’s not an option for us ($5K - $7K cost). I’d love to see an audit of their site (citimortgage.com) or their server logs. The likelihood of their site being down on the 7th/8th 3 of 3 times is slim to none. It’s important to understand that ALL of their monthly mortgage customers paying online on the 7th/8th would be charged $9.95 if their site was down. (doing the math, 10 x 100,000 customers x 12 months = $12,000,000 in additional revenues by simply modifying one file to read “Undergoing routine maintenance”). I smell a rat! Thanks for “listening” to me rant and rave.

And it gets worse. My property (home) is in New Orleans and sustained damage from Katrina. I called my insurance company right after the hurricane to file a claim and then called Shitimortgage to let them know that I was protecting their interest. You’d think that they would be somewhat grateful that a customer even bothered to call with info. First thing I was aksed was “When are you making your Sept payment?” This was on Sept 1! After several more calls, I was told not to worry about payments for at least 90 days - they were going to be deferred. I was even referred to their website which clearly stated that they were giving automatic 90 day deferrments - lucky I printed the page, as I had already had probelms with them. Then I get a late notice with a nasty note about being reported to the credit bureau. I called and asked what the deal was. I tried to tell the person on the phone about being told not to worry about the payments for 90 days and even mentioned the website. The kind (not) preson on the phone told me “Oh, we changed that and now you need to pay”. I asked him to read me the comments entered by the person I first spoke with. He repeated the part about no payments and not to worry. I asked how it can be one thing one day and something else another. He has no answer other than to say that “Things are different now” and asked me tto fax him the page I had printed from their website. I was told it would be reviewed and someone would contact me. I’ve been waiting 2 weeks now for that phone call.
So the saga continues. I have now recieved a check for some of the damage from my insurance co which is made out to me and Citimortgage. I have to send it to them with a detailed list of repairs and a copy of a contract for repairs. They will not dispurse one dime until they have it. In the meantime, part of the money from the insurance company is for cleanup and removal of debris. I an having to pay that out of pocket and will have to wait until I can get a contractor to give me a written detailed bid. The most irritating part is that I owe very little on my home and the insuracen check is more than the loan amount. I do not want to pay it off because I will lose my interest deduction, but it may be worth it just to be rid of them. It seems to me that they are making this entire process as difficult as possible. Is it not bad enough that most of us from New Orleans either have damage or are even without homes? This company is the worst in customer service. Damn Hibernia for selling my loan!!!! I will be pruchasing another home in the near future and will make it a part of the mortgage contract that the loan cannot be sold to Citimortgage.

CitiMortgage has nothing on file about our Repayment Plan w/Principle even though I have faxed the documents to two different people. We have made numerous calls talked to numerous non English speaking, undertrained Reps that just transfer us just so we can be put on hold for 40+ minutes. Now we received notice that now our home is in Foreclosure and the sale will be in the near future. We are despratley trying to get ahold of our Rep in Loss Mit. only to get his answering machine. We have left messages after messages with no call back. Do they realize that they are tinkering around with people’s home and sanity. I don’t even think they care.

For all to know, no matter your current lender or companies out there that provide a service to collect your mortgage bi monthly, you MUST ask if they actually APPLY it bi-monthly as compared to holding it and making one payment per month. Yes you can pay your mortgage down faster as paying every 2 weeks means in a year you make one month more of a payment. They rely on people not being committed enough to make that little bit more each month to principle to come out with the same result. This way they make a set up fee and a small monthly charge for the PERCEIVED service. That money could go to pay down your principle and shorten your loan. I’ve only found one lender, World Savings, who really applies your bi-monthly payment and recalculates the next 2 week payment on what is left on your principle. If they say it is applied every 2 weeks and recalculated, GET IT IN WRITING!

Same problem with citimortgage saying they did not get my payment on time. I use certified return receipt but have to write a letter EVERY month noting the dates received and cashed and requesting late payments removed.
also was assessed forced insurance even though i supplied a copy of my current policy and have been fighting for them to accept my payment minus the $12.00 they feel I owe for the policy they placed on the property 12 days after supplying them with a copy of my policy. they refuse to resolve the issue, I refuse to talk with them on the phone and am doing this all in writing so as to document their incompetance and refusal to correct the issue. Who really is the right governing ageny to have get involved with this? I am looking to carbon copy the CEO as well to let that person know just what is going on with the company. Anyone with appropriate contact information that can share would be appreciated. thanks

I had no idea that so many others were having the same problem w/Citi. We were also contacted soon after our mortgage was sold to them that our escrow account was over $1,000 short!. It cost us so much money in phone bills that we finally gave up and paid the extra. I have NEVER dealt with such rude and unknowledgeable (and I’m being gracious) people in any business. If a class action is started, I hope I am contacted. We recently re-financed at a higher interest rate just to get rid of them!!!!!

I am so relieved to know that I am not the only person that has been going through pure “HELL” with Citimortgage. I agree we would start a class action suit immediately. I have talked with several attornies myself. I had two foreclosures issued on me, as well as mortgage payment increase. I was also charged with late payment fees, attornies fees - you name it!. The company was paying my property taxes late each year, and one year, didn’t pay the taxes at all!. I was so frustrated with then, I decided in April to pay my mortgage off. The company still has not contacted the appraisal company (or anybody else as far as that goes) to let them know my home is paid for. I have not gotten my original deed or anything else from these jerks since my payoff. When I call I get the same runaround as usual. In order for me to pay my property taxes, I need my deed. The tax office told me they were going to continue to bill Citimortgage since they have not received anything from them indicating they no longer finance my home.
Please let’s not let this company continue to get away with this. We need to fight back!

    Write back.

I have citimortgage and I absolutly hate them. I have owned my house for 5 years and every year since we have been in this house we have had some type of problem, for example, the house is brand new and the taxes were not established in our area yet so we were being undercharged, but I was paying the amout I signed for but after 2 years they sent us a letter saying that our house was almost 10,000 dollars behind in payments!!! Well they made the mistake not me but that didn’t matter and we had to change our house payment from 700.00 to 1400.00 to make up, not very fair I thought well because of that we had to file for bankruptcy and we finaly got our house payments down to 925.00 (our house was only 72,000 when we bought it) and 5 years to the date I get another letter from them stating that I own them 4000.00 dollars by November 14 or they will forclose on the house, so I have 4 days from the ady I got the letter to come up with that money, yeah right, who acn do that? So citimortgage is getting their house back. I hate this company and will tell anyone to not use them. You can never get someone REAL to speak to you, you always have to leave a message and they say that they will return your call in 24-48 hours, whatever, I’m still waiting on my call from the 3rd of November, it’s now the 9th. Just a heads up and wanted everyone to know that this is the worst company I have ever had to do any kind of business for or with!!!!!!!!!

My home is for sale, and was prior to Hurricane Wilma. After which I have $30k of damages. Insurance company is sending check to me and Citi. If I can get contractors to give me deals, it will not help me at all will it? Citi is entitled to that entire amount and it is my responsibility to get all the repairs done for that amount? Is that what others have found.

Wow! Lots of complaints, and I’m adding mine to the pile. We bought last December, through LendingTree.com. They sold our mortgage - to CitiMortgage. Having had the Citi experience on their credit cards, I felt this did not bode well. It was OK for a while (surprise!). Yes, they’ve taken their sweet time on a couple of occasions to apply the payment, then one month, turned right around and applied the payment and had the check at our bank in two days. Inconsistent…

Then we had to file bankruptcy last September. They cut you off from the website; if you’re making a phone payment, you have to go to their bankruptcy department. Well, I was just informed that you have to request reaffirmation forms from them, they don’t send them out automatically. How nice. And apparently when my attorney sent them the intent to reaffirm papers, it got lost in the shuffle somewhere. How they can know about the bankruptcy and not the intent to reaffirm, as it was done at the same time and sent at the same time, is beyond me. But apparently not beyond them.

As far as the escrow account - *by law*, there can only be a 2 month balance, or 1/6 of the annual escrow outlay from the mortgagor, in your escrow account. I got my escrow estimate from them and my jaw nearly hit the floor. I have a balance of $800+ in my favor, and they want there to be a $1500+ cushion in the escrow account, or about 1/3 of annual outlay. They will be getting a “qualified written demand” that this egregious error be corrected, and I suggest you all do the same.

And like someone else said, contact the BBB.

And get your mortgage away from Citi as soon as you can. I know I will be.

Similar nightmare. my first mortgage was sold to Citimortgage, and for 4 months they “lost” the loan and would not accept payments. In the course of that, they would not pay my county taxes, which accrued a penalty. Once the loan was found, they paid the penalty, and several months later tried to bill my escrow account for the penalty. This caused me to refinance; my loan was again sold to Citi. This time they mysteriously transferred my mortgage to an interest only product. After 6 months of making interest only payments, I called to tell them that this was incorrect, and they promptly sent me to collections. !!! At this point, I hired an attorney, and began pursuing a RESPA complaint. Has anyone noticed that they provide an official correspondence address which differes from their RESPA address? So if you send a Qualified Written Request, be sure to use the correct address, and back it up with a letter to HUD, to make sure they respond.

Do not get a mortgage with Citi…
State Farm (who have been a wonderful insurance company) sent me an insurance check, which is made out to Citi mortgage and me…. I called Citi the Katrina specialist told me to send the check to them and that they would endorse it and send it back to me. This was wrong information, I was supposed to endorse it ands send it to them and they would keep the greater part of it until work was complete and to their satisfaction… Though I gave them my new temporary address in SC and asked that they over-night it to me in SC!! In their infinite wisdom they sent the check to my flooded empty house in New Orleans by regular mail!!!!. 2 weeks later I called to see why I had not received the check, a very smart young man assured me that I would be receiving it and that he was sure that it would arrive (does he have ESP?) it is now 5 weeks and the check never arrived! I stopped the check. CITI customer service personnel were condescending, their lip service was unbelievable, I was always reasonable did not raise my voice. I am disgusted absolutely disgusted. CITI MORTGAGE IS DISCUSTING insensitive inefficient and has no regard for their customers at all we are obviously there to serve CITI. I am not at all surprised to find this site so full of bad experiences, I am glad it exists!

I’m sorry to hear of all your troubles with Citi. My original Mortgage was with them in 1990.I decided in 1991 to refinance d/t lower interest rates.I did have a problem at that time as they agreed to a certain % then changed it at the last minute and ‘disappeared’ the agent I was working with. I held my ground and threatened to cancel the whole thing and they recinded. I can say since that time I have had NO problems with them or my payments. Recently d/t hurricane damage I was sent an insurance check. They kept most of it, but I felt since it was way more than I owed them, I wanted the diference back. I did my research with the Dept. of Finances, then politely called them and explained they had no right to ALL that money. Once they knew I had my ducks in a row they were very willing to return all the money ABOVE the mortgage amount. Seems it’s illegal for them to hold more than you owe. I think the secret here, with Citi or any other entity is persistance and research find out your rights and persue all avenues. Next year my mortgage will be paid off and I’m crossing my fingers that before then I don’t run into any of the problems you have encountered. Good luck to all of you

The penalty under RESPA evidently is not severe enough. I will also be contacting the UW Law School if they are interested in this situation. If not there are good consumer attorneys that will take cases against Citimortgage!

A week later I called to find out how the process was coming only to find out after being on hold for almost an hour that no one could find my check. I was so patient with these people despite everything we’ve been through. Now it’s a month later and I still have no check to start the repairs on our roof. They have been so rude and inconsiderate of people who have been through this horrible disaster. There is no way to talk to a supervisor either. It’s like they don’t exist. You would think they would have a little bit more compassion considering we have never been late or even missed a payment during this trying time. IFf anyone has any advice I would love to hear it. After another frustrating phone call to Citi Mortgage I started looking on the web for a web site to their loss draft Department. I am another Principal Residential customer bought out by CitiMortgage. I can only applaud the fact that somebody started their complaints against this company. I bought my home 10 years ago and have not had any of these problems with my mortgage company until Citimortgage has taken over. I have talked to them on a weekly basis since my fire on October 3. I can’t believe the way they treat their paying customers, this is insane. Every phone call with them has landed me in tears. It wasn’t bad enough I had two people die in a fire and to worry about that, but now to have the burden of no home for the last three months. I have had all the same problems with them as far as overpayments, late fees etc. This is about enough to put me over the edge. Calling them weekly and getting a new person to speak to and a brand new story with another hoop to try to jump through. I am ready to throw in the towel and give them their burnt home back, the only problem is they have my insurance check. I now have to file a second claim with my insurance company because they have taken so long and we have broken water lines and more damage to my home. I have explained to CitiMortgage that Pa is not a sunny state like CA. I feel like they just tell you what you want to hear to appease you and get you off the phone. One of my phone calls I was directed to a “co-mgr” “mary jo” who assured me if I would sign the check and mail it back they would have it back to me within a week. That was in November, we are now into December and almost January and I still have no home. They don’t care that we are homeless or that we had two family members die in the fire, they just care that the payment is made on time. Through this they tried to foreclose on my home also, while I was awaiting to find out if my home was going to be a “total loss”, which I did not get that information until November. This has been a nightmare!!! I have to take anti-anxiety medication before each phone call with them, only to still hang up in tears. I plan to write the the BBB and also the Citibank executives, however after seeing all these comments, it’s great to know I am not alone. Please contact me if there is a class action suit. Something needs to be done and I would love to be a part of doing it!!!

I just got off the phone again with Citimortgate to find out why they raised my mortgage payment on a house that I have not been able to live in for the past three months. They advised me they are charging me late fee’s on a payment they received (according to my bank statement) two days early. It took them an additional seven days to post it to my account and now want to charge me a late fee. I also got a “delinquency expense” they added on stating they sent an inspector out in December and want to charge me for it. I advised them that they have been well aware of the fire and I have spoken to their claims department at least twice a week since October, there was no reason for them to send out an inspector and I will refuse all these charges. They mailed my first claim check to Pittsburgh last week to an address I have no clue of and nobody knows why this address was put on my account. I also advised them that the people they have working for them are nothing but liars, they advised me they are not liars, they are “mis-informants”. I truely would like to be sure if I have to deal with them for another 18 years, they need to get themselves together. These people need to be stopped in their tracks!

I’m so glad we are not the only ones! My boyfriend and I bought a 20 acre ranch from my grandmother in November. I spent my summers there and love the area, so when she decided to sell it and head to Mexico, we decided to buy it…and since we both bank with citi, we figured we’d go with their motgage. Biggest f*cking mistake I ever made. The home is old and small and has been neglected. It was priced at $375,000 by the selling agent. We could only spend $323,000 at the most. So she accepted and we wrote up a contract. Then the appraisal came back at $265,000. The selling agent got all pissed off and had citimortgage review it. Suddenly, they said the price was exactly $323,000 and they had papers to prove it. So we signed the deal. We had an indepent appraisal after signing and it came back at $235,000. So we ask citimortgage to provide us with written proof and comparable properties that make it worth $323,000. Mysteriously, they cannot give us anything in writing proving this value. We’re giving them 30 days to prove the value or we’re taking them to court. You guys think late payment notices are bad! We spent an extra $100,000 on a home and citimortgage can’t tell us why!!!

My mortgage was sold by Hibernia and I ahve been living the Citi-nightmare since Katrina…Katrina has nothing on Citmortgage! They took over six weeks to process my claim check. Yes, they told me they had it, then they didn’t have it, then they did, etc. Thre weeks ago they told me they sent it back to me because my old bank (Hibernia) needed to sign it. Apparently, citmortgage does not know what the term “or its successors or assignors” means. They blamed me for “endorsing it incorrectly” but after I insisted it was their mistake, Donna put me on hold (forever) and came back and said it was their mistake! WOW! Guess what their “corrective measures entailed? That’s right, me calling my insurance company, cancelling the check, reissuing the check and then sending it back to the same idiots that made the mistake in the first place! If that wasn’t bad enough I hadn’t received the returned check. I figured it was the mail service, but come to find out, Citi did not put enough postage on the letter!! AAAAAARGH! When I called today to speak to a supervisor, I was told I could not speak to one. When I asked for a name so I could send my file to a person and not the idiot office, I was told that was not possible. Finally, the rep said, “Look sir, if you want your money you are going to have to do it our way”. Great….looks like I get to pay to rebuild my house.

Days laters we received a letter from Citi’s lawyer, Harmon Law Office out of Boston that they were going to foreclose. I called them, told them the money was sent. They said hold off any payments until we know if Citimortgage “accepts” the payment. If they send it back it means they will foreclose. Well…we never received the check back so we thought we were all set. Not. I called our bank weeks later just to make sure it was cashed…no. I called Harmon who said they would check with Citi. Citi acknowledged they signed for it, but…..LOST IT! So since they lost it, it meant they couldn’t cash it, so to them it meant they didn’t have payment from us. We went to stop payment and were told we have to wait 90 days, which will bring us to 3/12/06…..TWO days after Citimortgage is going to auction our house off!!! We are approved for refinancing but last wednesday were told because of C
